NBA x Marvel
For the first time ever, the NBA and Marvel had an in-game collaboration on May 3, featuring the Golden State Warriors and the New Orleans Pelicans. Considered a league game, Marvel added their own touch through animations and a storyline.
The storyline revolved around a point system in which the three main players of each team competed for Marvel Hero Points. Iron Man and the Black Panther were in search of new recruits. Both looked towards the greatest athletes of the NBA, and whoever passed the training game had the opportunity to fight alongside the Avengers. The six main players were Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, Andrew Wiggins, Zion Williamson, Brandon Ingram, and Lonzo Ball. Each player was awarded Marvel Hero Points based on their stats. The player with the highest was declared the Marvel Champion. Draymond Green emerged as the First Marvel Champion with 48 Marvel Hero Points.
Towards the end of the season, teams have been fighting for a spot in the playoffs. With the implementation of the Play-in Tournament, lower-seeded teams have a chance to make the playoffs and a playoff run. In other words, this gives the 9th and 10th seeded teams a chance to make the playoffs when traditionally, the top 8 are the only ones that do. The 7th and 8th seeded teams compete for the 7th seed, and the loser of that game competes against the winner of the 9th and 10th seed matchup for the 8th seed. The Play-in Tournament is from May 18th to May 21st, and then the playoffs start the next day on May 22nd. So look forward to this year’s Play-in Tournament and the NBA Playoffs!
