With the rising number of cases, it is the best option for all students to have the COVID-19 vaccine. COVID-19  vaccines are available for people ages 5 and older. As of January 18th, 2021, there are over 67 million COVID-19 cases in the United States, and more than 800,000 deaths. It is vital that all Gahr Gladiators have the vaccine to remain healthy and to make school safer.

There are numerous benefits of having the COVID-19 vaccine. According to Mrs. Najera, students who have been contract traced may be able to return to school if they have a negative test result and are vaccinated. Students with negative test results, that are not vaccinated, need to quarantine for longer. Students who are vaccinated only need to show proof of their vaccination to attend school events. While unvaccinated students need to have a negative test result no earlier than 2 days prior to the event. Having the vaccine lowers the severity of COVID-19 symptoms.

According to the CDC, COVID-19 vaccinations reduce the risk of hospitalization and death. Being vaccinated will make Gahr High School a safe and healthy campus.

However, there are mixed opinions about the vaccine amongst students. An argument made against the vaccine was that it was not beneficial, and the side effects were too severe. According to the CDC, having the vaccine reduces death, serious illness, and the transmission of COVID-19. People who are unvaccinated are more susceptible to having COVID-19 and having more severe symptoms. Although there are side effects of the vaccine, the side effects tend to be mild.

Being COVID-19 vaccinated benefits the health and attendance of Gahr gladiators. For students to be in a healthy and positive state, it is important for them to have the vaccine. Schedule your Covid-19 vaccine today at your local pharmacy.
