Welcome Back Athletes!
April 14, 2021
It has been a whole year since we were told that we were on lockdown. Since March 16th, Gahr athletes haven’t played a single game in 2020. But now that CIF has approved conditioning and a proper schedule for our Gahr teams, athletes are eagerly looking forward to their seasons.
So far the cross country team has started their practices and season already. They have
participated in multiple races and have performed their best at their races on March 13 against La Mirada where the boys team placed 2nd with a total time of 1:06:10 with 10 runners and the girls team placed 2nd with a total time of 1:14:32 with 8 runners. The team also had another race against Cerritos High School on March 24.
With their season starting so late into the year and ending after less than three weeks, Ritish Bagga, a junior cross country runner, said “This year was a big change from last year. With minimal conditioning and limited time, we were not able to fully condition to participate in many races, and of the races that we have participated in, we only ran 2 miles instead of the traditional 3 miles. It’s sad that the season is ending super fast, but I am looking forward to the start of the track season.”
The Water Polo teams have also started their season. Both the boy’s and the girls’ teams have played their first games of the season. The boy’s water polo team has gone up against Paramount High School and the Girls Water polo team against Downey High School. These games can be watched live on gahr.girlsaquatics, Instagram, or IGTV. So far the first games for both teams have been posted. So go check it out!
The baseball team had their season opener on March 20th against Santa Margarita and the football team had a scrimmage against North Torrance High School on March 19th.
With the start of the season for most Gahr sports teams, we wish them the best of luck and hope for a successful season for all teams. Go Gladiators!
