Grammy 2021: Projected Winners

  • January 6, 2021

With the recent release of the 2021 Grammy nominations, people have been thrown into a musical recap of 2020. The songs and artists nominated have shaped the way everyone has experienced this year. Music served as an epicenter of quarantine life, so most most people are ready to express and defend their opinions concerning the winners of each award. The categories that are surrounded by the most anticipation are Record of the Year and Best New Artist.

Record of the Year Nominations

Black Parade by Beyoncé

Colors by Black Pumas

Rockstar by DaBaby Featuring Roddy Rich

Say So by Doja Cat

Everything I Wanted by Billie Eilish

Don’t Start Now by Dua Lipa

Circles by Post Malone

Savage by Megan Thee Stallion Featuring Beyoncé

In terms of widespread influence, ‘Savage’ by Megan Thee Stallion and Doja Cat’s ‘Say So’ are the farthest in the running.  With the help of Tik Tok, the viral social media app that connects users from all over the world through music and short videos, the two songs managed to reach millions of people from different countries around the world. The dance trends associated with both the records encouraged many people to hop on the trend.

Best New Artist Nominations

Ingrid Andress

Phoebe Bridgers

Chika

Noah Cyrus

D Smoke

Doja Cat

Kaytranada

Megan Thee Stallion

The four artists that most likely have the best chance of receiving the award are D Soke, Doja Cat, Kaytranada, and Megan Thee Stallion. Doja Cat and Megan Thee Stallion have a large chance for the same reason why their most popular songs are likely to win the Recond of the Year award. Their influence on social media was incredibly prominent in 2020, with both of them seeing the most of their success this year. D Smoke has a chance because of his history on the show “Rhythm and Flow” featuring Chance the Rapper, Cardi B, and T.I. As the winner of the show, his following may be enough to catapult him into the higher ranking nominees of the category.

As much as people can speculate and forecast the winners of these concentrations, the public will not know for certainty until the airing of the award show itself. The 63rd Annual Grammy Awards will take place on January 31, 2021. Stay tuned to see if your favorite artist won an award!
